As a Specialist Boilermaker, you will take charge of tasks involving boiler system testing, retubing, welding, and refurbishing. You will work from blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications, completing assignments independently and mentoring others. This role also includes problem-solving, planning, and ensuring all projects adhere to safety standards.
- Boiler System Testing: Perform pressure testing, re-facing maintenance holes or handholes, and machining seating surfaces with resurfacing machines.
- Refurbishing: Weld and repair seating surfaces, re-facing altered items, and ensuring proper refurbishment.
- Retubing: Install new tubes, read tube identification drawings, expand tubes and seats, and use expansion tools effectively.
- Burning: Safely operate hook-up torches and light torches for precise burning tasks.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret advanced blueprints to perform complex tasks.
- Refractory Work: Lay brickwork in furnaces, maintain anchor and burner tiles, and ensure access through firebox doors.
- Tack Welding: Perform grinding and tack welding; certifications in SMAW and FCAW are strongly preferred.
- Ship Fitting Skills: Set up and execute ship fitting tasks, including vent pattern development and CFM meter usage for vent balancing.
- Stainless Steel Work: Handle galley equipment, stainless steel components, and fixtures, ensuring precise installations and repairs.
- Experience: 7-10 years as a Boilermaker, ideally in marine or industrial settings.
- Certifications: SMAW and FCAW certifications are strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in boiler installation, testing, refurbishment, and retubing.
- Blueprint Knowledge: Advanced skills in reading and interpreting technical blueprints.
- Naval Terminology: Familiarity with naval vessel compartments, numbering systems, and related terminology (e.g., CG, DDG, LHD).
- Tools & Measurements: Knowledge of measuring tools, including scales and tape measures.
- Safety Standards: Ability to work safely in a shipyard or aboard vessels, wearing standard PPE.
