Position Summary:

The Business Development Manager will focus on expanding our client base and driving revenue growth within the maritime industry. Responsibilities include identifying new business opportunities, managing client relationships, representing the shipyard at trade events, and using technical knowledge to communicate our service offerings effectively. The role requires strong industry expertise, interpersonal skills, and a track record in business development.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Acquisition and Relationship Management

  • Identify and pursue potential clients in commercial shipping, offshore, and industrial marine sectors.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key decision-makers to ensure repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for client inquiries, project requirements, and contract negotiations.

Market Research and Strategy Development

  • Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, competitive developments, and emerging opportunities.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies tailored to the shipyard’s vessel construction, maintenance, and repair services.
  • Analyze risks and growth potential within the market to refine sales approaches.

Technical Knowledge and Collaboration

  • Apply an understanding of shipyard operations and technical specifications in repair, refit, and new build services.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure alignment between client needs and technical capabilities.
  • Stay informed on advancements in maritime technology, regulatory changes, and safety standards.

Sales Pipeline Management

  • Manage a sales pipeline from lead generation through to project closure.
  • Set and pursue short-term and long-term objectives to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals highlighting the shipyard's technical capabilities.

Trade Shows and Industry Networking

  • Represent the shipyard at trade shows, expos, and conferences to build brand presence and generate leads.
  • Network with industry professionals, suppliers, contractors, and prospective clients.
  • Organize and conduct on-site tours and meetings with potential clients to showcase our facilities and capabilities.

Cross-functional Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal teams, including Engineering, Operations, and Finance, for seamless project execution.
  • Work with marketing to develop promotional materials, case studies, and presentations highlighting our services.
  • Support project teams during planning and execution to meet client expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role in the maritime, shipbuilding, or heavy industry.
  • Strong understanding of shipyard operations and vessel lifecycle management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to travel frequently for trade shows, client meetings, and site visits.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with maritime regulations, safety standards, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with contract negotiations in a shipyard or heavy industry environment.
  • Established a network within the maritime industry, including commercial shipowners, offshore operators, and relevant agencies.
