Controls Engineer I, II, III
NSC Skilled Trades is seeking experienced Controls Engineer I, II, III for a project in Cochise, AZ.
JOB DETAILS:
PAY: $5977.42- $10207.42 per month Salary and Level will be based on education and experience (Annual Salary - $71,729.04 - $122,489.04)
PER-DIEM: NO
HOURS: 8am - 5pm
START DATE: ASAP
DURATION: Permanent
Degree: BSME Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline
SCOPE: Hands will get dirty - not a 100% office position
To assist with the design, programming and maintenance of logic based control systems with the goal of improving safety, reliability and efficiency. To develop a mutual learning relationship with electrical and instrument maintenance groups, providing technical support as needed. To develop a mutual learning relationship with operations personnel and work with operations to identify and resolve issues and problems relating to the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems. Support IT assets used to power the control network. This includes regular maintenance as well as operating system configuration, control software installation, lease rollout, and networking support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline. General knowledge is desired in the areas of boiler combustion (gas and coal) and steam and gas turbine performance including a general understanding of all aspects of coal and gas fired generating stations. ? Up to 2 years’ experience in a controls engineering field. The ability to use computer tools and analysis techniques is essential. Functional knowledge of classic control theory and general knowledge of advanced control philosophies. Strong background in IT systems focusing on Microsoft® operating systems. Strong networking skills focusing on the Ethernet model that is used to support control systems communications. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ? Monitor overall health of each control system at Apache Station, and recommend actions and procedures to maintain and improve integrity of plant control systems. ? Develop understanding of tools and tuning methods available for improving effectiveness of control systems. ? Assist the Controls Engineer in developing safe, reliable, efficient control strategies to meet the changing requirements of existing and new plant processes. ? Support the Results Engineering group in the common goal of improving plant performance. ? Become knowledgeable of developing control technology and products, and assist Controls Engineer plan for future needs, enhancements, upgrades, and replacements. ? Develop Web based solutions to meet management needs. ? Monitor and maintain the controls network and IT assets used to support control system operation. ? Function well in a team environment with minimal supervision.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: ? Assist Results Engineering group with access to pertinent reliable data necessary to making prudent engineering decisions and recommendations. ? Assist in meeting the training needs of maintenance and operations groups related to plant controls. ? Assist in maintaining and enhancing data acquisition and control network infrastructure.
PRINCIPLE CHALLENGES: ? Provide clear and concise engineering analysis of control issues affecting plant safety, reliability, and efficiency. ? Provide new solutions to old problems.
FUNCTIONAL GUIDANCE: ? Functional guidance will be provided by the immediate supervisor or manager. ? The Controls Engineer will provide day-to-day guidance. REVIEW AND APPROVALS: ? Recommend, advise and counsel on: oSimple plant performance and operational modifications. o Control system enhancements. o Control network security testing. ? Will provide review and approval of work delegated to contractors and craft-personnel.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS: ? On-time completion of assignments. ? Demonstration of initiative in improving plant operational safety, reliability, and efficiency. ? Availability and performance of Apache Station’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) for process control. ? Availability and accuracy of automation data used in operational reporting systems. ? Timely response to lease return schedules.
