SCOPE:
  • Position Description:
    We are seeking a versatile individual to fulfill the combined roles of Engineering Documentation Coordinator and CAD Drafter/Designer. This position will play a critical role in maintaining and coordinating drawings, records, and other documentation for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering projects while also contributing to drafting and design tasks within our Substation Department.
    Position-Related Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and track project engineering documentation packages throughout various developmental and approval stages.
  • Act as the administrator for engineering project documentation logistics, including electronic drawing storage and quality control.
  • Coordinate engineering drawing packages with Reproduction services and issue secured documentation file packages as required by engineering design projects.
  • Provide research, monitoring, and tracking services to ensure timely availability of drawing files.
  • Maintain and assign drawing and facility numbers according to TEP Engineering drawing number standards.
  • Oversee the electronic imaging process of documents and engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Track drawing reviews and approvals, ensuring timely processing.
  • Examine CAD files to verify conformance with TEP CAD standards.
  • Prepare reports, graphs, and data analyses as required, maintaining departmental equipment history records.
  • Develop both special and regular reports, such as as-builts backlogs and projected workloads.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in methods and procedures, providing cost justifications as needed.
  • Interact with various departments and perform special assignments as requested.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients to integrate processes and solutions effectively.
  • Prioritize and schedule requests to meet best practices and customer needs.
  • Provide training on T&D Engineering project documentation process and drawing management systems.
  • Responsibilities (CAD Drafter/Designer):
  • Assist in drafting engineering drawings for substation projects, including physical and civil layout drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Work independently under the direction of a substation designer/engineer, planning own work within allotted budget and schedules.
  • Learn, understand, and implement CAD knowledge and client standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Collaborate on design issues and seek guidance from experienced team members.
  • Double check red lines and ensure high accuracy and quality control in work.
  • Handle multiple assignments concurrently, adjusting priorities, and meeting deadlines.

  • Required Education/Experience:
  • Associates/technical degree in an accredited drafting program or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to quality check own work.

  • Desired Education/Experience:
  • 3+ years drafting experience with AutoCAD in an engineering work environment.
  • Experience in electric utility, electrical distribution design, engineering design, or construction work using CAD.
  • Familiarity with drafting as-builds and substation electrical schematics/wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with Autodesk Raster Design, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault Professional, Laserfiche, 3D design, and scaled drawings.
  • This role offers a hybrid schedule and requires in-person work at our Tucson office. More days may be required during training. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to both our engineering documentation coordination efforts and our substation design projects.
