As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will assist in implementing and maintaining programs that ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. You will act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, conduct inspections, investigate spills, and maintain compliance records. This role requires daily interaction with employees, vendors, and subcontractors regarding environmental issues related to ship repair and maintenance.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of environmental compliance programs.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, including DEH, APCD, MIWP, RWQCB, SWRCB, EPA, Coast Guard, and US Navy requirements.
- Conduct daily inspections related to housekeeping and Best Management Practices (BMPs) within the facility.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for regulatory permits and company policies.
- Investigate spills and illicit discharges, preparing reports as required by state and federal regulations.
- Communicate with employees, vendors, and subcontractors regarding environmental compliance issues.
- Maintain routine contact with local regulators and customers, and periodic contact with state and federal regulators.
- High school diploma or equivalent; a combination of education and experience with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting inspections and maintaining compliance records.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to investigate spills and prepare regulatory reports.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies is a plus.
