As an Estimating Manager, you will oversee and coordinate all estimating activities to ensure accurate and competitive bids. This is a working manager role, meaning you will be responsible for both leading a team and actively contributing to the estimating process. Your expertise in cost analysis, project planning, and proposal development will be crucial to the company’s success in securing contracts.
- Lead and manage the Estimating/Proposal Department’s daily activities.
- Develop and implement estimate execution plans.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate estimating personnel.
- Manage workload distribution and recommend staffing levels.
- Work collaboratively with business development, operations, purchasing, and other departments to ensure comprehensive and competitive estimates.
- Participate in all phases of the proposal process, from strategy development to final review.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs.
- Conduct pre-estimate meetings and transfer estimates to project execution teams.
- Ensure all proposals meet compliance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 10+ years of related experience in estimating, preferably in ship repair or naval vessel projects.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. Navy vessels, systems, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to gain access to military installations.
- Must pass a drug test and background check.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Some exposure to loud noises, hazardous chemicals, and extreme temperatures during work-site visits.
- Required PPE: Hard hat, ear protection, safety shoes, respirator, gloves.
