NSC Staffing is seeking a Manufacturing Technician C to join our team in Norfolk, VA. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-level electro-optic, fiber optic, and electro-mechanical assemblies, diagnosing malfunctions and ensuring the highest quality in production. Position Overview:
As a Manufacturing Technician C, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and performing tests on various electro-optical systems, including hybrid systems, circuit boards, fiber optic cables, and electro-mechanical assemblies. Your role will involve working with advanced test equipment and sophisticated tools to perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs. You will be an individual contributor with the opportunity to mentor less experienced team members, help improve processes, and ensure production quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform electro-optic cable terminations and jointing, sub-surface communications cable management, and electronics assembly.
  • Tasks may include fiber optic splicing, potting of mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, hydrostatic-pressure testing, and electrical/electronic assemblies soldering.
  • Solder electronic components onto electronics boards and other electrical assemblies.
  • Perform fine adjustments using hand tools, precision measuring devices, and specialized equipment such as vacuum equipment, digital indicators, optical microscopes, height, Vernier gages, micrometers, and electronic testing fixtures.
  • Provide skilled support for potting, electro-mechanical, and fiber optic assemblies.
  • Handle, inspect, clean, and prepare delicate and sensitive optical components and assemblies.
  • Use a broad range of electrical, electronic, and mechanical parts such as fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, and epoxies.
  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to ensure proper system function and assembly.
  • Work with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and equipment such as fusion splicers, high-precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced team members, fostering a positive team environment.
  • Assist with production scheduling, control, and implementation of new training programs and processes.
  • Participate in team projects to improve process methods, solutions, and procedures to enhance program quality, cost, and scheduling.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the 5S+1 program to ensure that work areas are clean, orderly, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Lead daily departmental GEMBA meetings, update board contents, and ensure actions are taken and performance is measured.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, chemical handling, calibrated tooling, and equipment audits.
  • Assist with determining the need for tooling and make recommendations for designing and planning required tools and equipment.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Must possess a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
  • Experience with sub-surface communication optical cables, fiber optics, potting, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Certified IRC Specialist to IRC J-STD-001 standards is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Two-year post-secondary/Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience, OR High School Diploma or equivalent with 6 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience interpreting schematic diagrams, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to develop creative, practical solutions to technical challenges.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the calendar year.
Work Environment:
This position is in a manufacturing environment where you will work with high-tech systems and equipment. Expect exposure to large machinery, precision testing tools, and electro-optic and electro-mechanical systems. PPE is required, and safety is always a top priority. You will work in both office and industrial environments, which may involve high noise and vibration levels.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Perform standing, walking, bending, squatting, and other physical activities as required.
  • Ability to work with delicate and sensitive components for extended periods.
  • Must be comfortable working with precision equipment and test systems.
  • Ability to respond to visual, verbal, and audible cues during troubleshooting and testing.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and at varying heights.
