Job Opening: Pipefitter Helper

We are currently hiring for a Pipefitter Helper position in Jacksonville, Fl. This role offers long-term employment with a standard 40-hour workweek.

Position Overview: As a Pipefitter Helper, you will assist in the removal, repair, layout, fabrication, installation, and testing of marine piping systems. This includes using both hand and power tools for repairs and fabrication, as well as assisting with tank blanking and pressure testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at work on time and adhere to the schedule as directed by the pipe shop supervisor.
  • Perform tasks including inspecting work areas, running lines and leads, removing damaged pipe, measuring and templating, and assisting with pipe fitting and alignment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, and comply with OSHA standards and company safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, and follow all instructions for Lock-out Tag-out procedures.
  • Assist with blanking systems and boundary air tests as directed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to comprehend instructions and general correspondence.
  • Basic knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartments.
  • Fire watch certification required.
  • Physically and medically capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) as per OSHA standards, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, and flotation gear.
  • Basic knowledge of pipe fitting theory and ability to operate relevant equipment and tools.
  • Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and understanding of US customary and metric measurement systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in a maritime repair environment.

Work Environment:

  • The job environment varies from typical office conditions to outdoor settings with precipitation, wind, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Inside vessels, conditions may include smoky, hot or cold environments with low illumination.
  • Work may involve heavy equipment, power tools, confined spaces, and high platforms. PPE is mandatory to ensure safety.
  • The noise level is typically loud in shipyard settings, and moderate in the shop.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50-75 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
  • Perform tasks that include prolonged standing, bending, squatting, climbing, and working at various heights and positions.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and accessing work areas through small openings.
  • Must have good balance and coordination, and respond to visual, verbal, and audible signals.
