QA INSPECTOR
Job Title: Coatings Inspector – NACE/NBPI/QCS/PCI Certified Location: Hampton Roads

NSC Staffing is actively hiring a Coatings Inspector with certification in NBPI, NACE Level I or higher, NAVSEA QCS, or PCI (any level). This role supports government and commercial marine projects and is ideal for inspectors experienced in surface preparation, application verification, and quality assurance on critical coatings systems.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct coatings inspections in accordance with NAVSEA 009-32, MIL-SPEC, SSPC PA-2, and NSTM 631 standards.
· Monitor surface preparation (SP-1 through SP-11), environmental conditions, blast media testing, and coating application methods.
· Verify dry film thickness (DFT), adhesion/cohesion, chloride/sodium/sulfate contamination using industry-standard equipment (e.g., Defelsko, Elcometer, SCM 400, Testex tape).
· Ensure compliance through detailed documentation, inspection checkpoints, and non-conformance reporting.
· Communicate inspection results clearly to project teams, contractors, and QA leadership.
· Participate in preparation and oversight of coating operations for tanks, bilges, piping systems, hull structures, and other critical marine surfaces.
Required Certifications (any one or more preferred):
· NBPI – NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (preferred for U.S. Navy-related projects)
· NACE Coating Inspector Program (CIP) – Level I or higher
· QCS – NAVSEA Quality Coating Supervisor
· PCI – Protective Coatings Inspector (SSPC/AMPP Level 1, 2, or 3)
Qualifications:
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial, shipyard, or marine coatings inspection
· Proven understanding of corrosion control principles and protective coatings performance
· Familiarity with federal/military coatings requirements (NAVSEA, DoD, ASTM, ISO)
· Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work independently or with teams
· Proficient with coating inspection tools and report documentation
Work Conditions:
· Must be able to work aboard vessels, in confined spaces, at heights, and in outdoor environments
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical inspections
· May require evening/weekend shifts depending on project needs
· PPE and safety gear required; training provided
