NSC Staffing is seeking a skilled Shipfitter Loft Journeyperson to join our team in the fabrication of components and assemblies for Navy Ships, Military Sealift Command, and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of ship terminology, blueprint reading, and the ability to interpret job specifications and drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform ship checks as required and maintain a comprehensive understanding of ship repair terminology and compartment locations.
- Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers.
- Read and interpret structural drawings, sketches, and specifications accurately.
- Comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence effectively.
- Carry out balancing air systems operations, document results, and write comprehensive Condition Found Reports (CFR).
- Communicate job-related information effectively to structural supervisors, improvers, and helpers.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and BAE best safety practices while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, complete daily assignments, and provide status updates for shift turnover.
- Resolve unexpected events related to assigned tasks professionally.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or completion of vocational training in a related field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of related experience, with three (3) years in a maritime environment.
- Experience as a loftsperson within the last three (3) years or completion of lofting vocational training.
- Familiarity with repairing and installing structural plates and shapes, and foundations on ships.
- Strong mathematical skills and understanding of US customary and metric measurement systems.
- Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights above 12 feet.
