Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Shipfitter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for cutting, grinding, and assembling metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align components according to blueprints. You will also perform tacking and welding of foundations and install temporary fasteners to secure structural members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blueprint Interpretation: Lay out work based on detailed blueprints and specifications.
- Metal Fabrication: Cut, burn, grind, and fit metal structural parts for placement on ships.
- Welding: Tackle and weld foundations and structural members, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate high-reach equipment, including condors and scissor lifts.
- Site Management: Set up tools and equipment at the job site and ensure a clean work environment by removing scrap materials to the nearest tub.
- Rigging: Utilize rigging equipment effectively to support assembly tasks.
- Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in shipfitting or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology, and various metals.
- Certification Required: Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) T-1 certification.
- Must successfully pass a hands-on assessment test conducted by NASSCO, which includes a knowledge assessment, burning and scarfing evaluation, and fabrication assessment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, ensuring safety while navigating and moving around the ship.
