Position Overview:
The Confined Space Entry Coordinator will conduct atmospheric testing and space inspections to ensure areas are safe for workers, mainly when performing hot work activities. This role requires an active Competent Person Certification and a safety and regulatory compliance focus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct atmospheric testing and space inspections to determine if areas are safe for workers and hot work.
- Ensure calibration and proper maintenance of atmospheric testing equipment.
- Maintain records of inspections, tests, and certifications.
- Apply gas-free work scope process while ensuring compliance with NFPA 306 and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate the need for Marine Chemist inspections as necessary.
- Test hollow structures for explosive atmospheres and recommend safe work practices.
- Provide training on confined and enclosed space entry procedures.
- Monitor subcontractor activities to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 100 feet.
- Ability to enter confined and enclosed spaces.
- Ability to distinguish colors, kneel, stand, squat, crawl in and out of holes, walk up to 5 miles daily, and climb stairs.
- Must be medically capable of wearing a respirator.
- Primarily performed on board vessels, ships, crafts, and barges.
- Approximately 5% of duties are performed shore-side in piping and electrical tunnels.
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, heights, and confined spaces.
- 30% of the job involves administrative tasks performed in an office, including computer entry, record retention, and filing.
- High School Degree.
- At least 2 years of related experience in confined space entry.
- Active Competent Person Certification.
- Knowledge of vessel configurations and the ability to locate areas on various classes of ships.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Chemistry is a plus.
- OSHA 10 Hour 1915 Maritime Safety Certification.
- 8-Hour Confined Space Awareness Training.
- Respiratory Protection / FIT Testing (Quantitative and Qualitative).
- 30-Hour Gas Free Engineering Training per NAVSEA Standards (preferred).
