Position: A-Class Welder
Location: Mobile, Alabama
NSC Staffing is hiring A-Class Fitters for an upcoming project in Mobile Alabama. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience as a B-Class Fitter or 2 years in a related industry. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of shipfitting tasks and procedures and a demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings and perform fitting operations with minimal supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
- Proficient in technical tasks, work processes, and equipment operation related to shipfitting.
- Responsible for completing daily work assignments, including documentation and quality checks.
- Ensures compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations.
- Rigs plates and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Understands directions, follows instructions, and maintains cleanliness and organization at assigned job sites.
- Performs safe and effective use of craft-related tools and equipment, including millers, sanders, grinders, saws, and more.
- Obtains GMAW ABS ‘B’ Class Weld Certification for steel or aluminum applications.
- Conducts basic layout of plates, materials, and weldments using engineering sketches, drawings, and diagrams with minimal supervision.
- Performs shipfitting tasks such as fit-up of structures, cutting, sanding, grinding, and prepping with minimum supervision.
- Monitors the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Willing to work with and train lower-skilled workers.
- Flexible to work on any shift and take on additional tasks as required.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year as a B-Class Fitter or 2 years in a related industry.
- Successful completion of an A-Class Fitter Test.
- Demonstrated proficiency and competency for the A-Class Fitters position.
- Ability to interpret and work from construction drawings, job specifications, and technical manuals.
- Advanced knowledge of equipment, processes, and techniques for fitting aluminum/steel components and vessels.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements using the metric system.
- Strong understanding of shipyard terminology, vessel layout, and welding joint details.
- Advanced working knowledge of engineering drawings and sketches.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
- Ability to climb stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps safely.
- Able to work at heights above 12 feet while on ladders, scaffolding, or manlifts.
- Must maintain good balance while working on uneven surfaces.
- Sufficient handgrip and coordination to handle tools and equipment.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA standards.
- Able to work in varying temperatures and confined spaces for prolonged periods.
- Must be responsive to visual, verbal, and audible commands.
Work Environment:
- Regular exposure to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, outdoor weather, and extreme temperatures.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noise.
