**Position: Welder**  
*Location: Jacksonville, Fl.*  

**NSC Technologies** is currently hiring entry-level Welders to assist with production welding on ships or in a shop environment under supervision. This role supports the structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels, including military and commercial ships. The ideal candidate should have up to one year of welding experience and a strong understanding of welding techniques. 

**Qualifications and Experience:**

1. Ability to comprehend instructions and general correspondence.
2. Familiarity with ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming conventions.
3. Physically and medically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed under OSHA standards. This includes hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirators, safety harnesses, safety lines, flotation gear, etc.
4. Effective communication skills to convey job-related information to supervisors and journeyman welders.
5. Understanding of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) theory.
6. Some welding experience and ability to certify in:
   - SMAW (T-1-HY)
   - FCAW (T-34-A)
7. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and relevant standards.
8. Basic understanding of equipment and work processes for welding certifications held.
9. Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools.
10. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Understanding of the U.S. customary measurement system and basic familiarity with the metric system.
11. Up to one year of welding experience is preferred.

**Duties and Responsibilities:**

1. Provide guidance to welding helpers to complete assigned tasks.
2. Arrive at the designated work site at the assigned time and conclude the shift as directed.
3. Be accountable for completing daily work assignments.
4. Comply with OSHA standards and company safety practices.
5. Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times, particularly at the end of each shift.
6. Communicate effectively with Fire Watch personnel and provide direction as needed.
7. Ensure high-quality work and provide Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) as required.
8. Work shifts and overtime as assigned.
9. Adhere to the company's Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.
10. Follow written or oral instructions and consult with supervisors to resolve unexpected issues.

**Work Tasks Include:**

- Preparing work areas for hot work and ensuring fire prevention.
- Inspecting joints and preparing areas for welding.
- Checking welds for defects and collaborating with supervisors to correct deficiencies.
- Documenting existing conditions.
- Reviewing applicable safety requirements before starting work.
- Assisting with Lock-out Tag-out procedures for ongoing work.

**Work Environment:**

- Varies from normal office conditions to outdoor environments, which may include exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Work may occur inside vessels with smoky, hot, or cold conditions and low illumination.
- Exposure to heavy equipment and power tools in most areas.
- Potentially noisy environments, particularly inside vessels.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
- Occasional exposure to falling objects and moving mechanical parts.

**Physical Demands:**

- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle tools, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must be capable of lifting/pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
- Perform prolonged standing, bending, squatting, crawling, and kneeling.
- Work safely at heights and in confined spaces.
- Maintain good balance and coordination.
- Ability to respond to visual, verbal, and audible signals.
- Must be able to work in various positions, including overhead and in confined spaces.
